When Yeshua was coming into Jerusalem for His final Passover until His return as King of kings, He cursed a fig tree along the way. This tree was representative of Judaism (Mosaic Law). He said it would no longer bear any fruit 'for ever'. We have to remember that Judah was only one of the 12 tribes, and that 10 of the tribes have been 'lost' after the dispersion. They mostly migrated to Europe. As with 'Christianity', not everything bearing the name 'Israel' is 'Israel'! (Israel= "prince of YHWH ")
"And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away." Matthew 21:19
Later, on the night of His betrayal, the Passover, His disciples asked "Tell us, when shall these things be? and what [shall be] the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? " To this question He prophesied the events which would lead up to His second coming, 'The Olivet Prophesy'. He also gave the 'Parable of the Fig Tree'-
"Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer [is] nigh:" Matthew 24:32
Here He is saying that when the Fig tree puts forth new leaves that the harvest (His Return) is nigh. This is a reference to when Isreal would be reestablished or reborn after it's destruction in AD 70. This event occured in 1948.
This gives us insight into what He says in v 34 "Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled."
Jeus was not speaking of that generation, but was speaking of the generation which would see the fig tree bud! The establishment of modern Isreal (the 'fig tree' budding!) was what Yeshua told us to watch for to determine the final generation!
Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof: so he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured. Proverbs 27:18
And the trees said to the fig tree, Come thou, [and] reign over us. Judges 9:10
I found Israel like grapes in the wilderness; I saw your fathers as the firstripe in the fig tree at her first time: [but] they went to Baalpeor, and separated themselves unto [that] shame; and [their] abominations were according as they loved. Hosea 9:10
In Mark 11 Yeshua curses the fig tree just before he enters into Jerusalem and turns over the tables in the temple and drives out the moneychangers! On their return the next day they find this tree withered. What else could Yeshua be talking about? The individual- sure- but remember "the testimony of Yeshua is the spirit of prophecy."
In that day, saith the LORD of hosts, shall ye call every man his neighbour under the vine and under the fig tree. Zechariah 3:10
"I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman." - Yeshua
