Surely, if Christ had intended to institute a new requirement after his crucificxion, He would have informed those closest to Him. Did the apostles teaching about obedience to the law change after Christ's death and resurrrection? Did Jesus Christ do away with the Commandments?
1) What did James tell the Apostle Paul about the Jerusalem Church decades after Christs death?
And the [day] following Paul went in with us unto James; and all the elders were present. And when he had saluted them, he declared particularly what things God had wrought among the Gentiles by his ministry. And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord, and said unto him, Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are which believe; and they are all zealous of the law: Acts 21:18-20
2)What is the summary of God's "royal law"?
If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: James 2:8
3) Does this "royal law" have points?
For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one [point], he is guilty of all. For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law. James 2:10-11
4) James did not consider God's law a yoke of bondage. What did he say about Christians being judged by the law?
So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty. James 2:12
5) Peter explains that God's purpose for true Christians is that they become holy, as He is Holy:
But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. 1 Peter 1:15,16
This was Peter quoting the "Old" Testement!
And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God [am] holy. Leviticus 19:1, 2
6) Peter warned of false prophets who would entice peole away from obedience to God, leading them back into the world:
But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 2 Peter 2:1,2
For when they speak great swelling [words] of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, [through much] wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error. While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage. For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known [it], to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. 2 Peter 2:18-21
7) The Apostle John emphasized the importance of commandment-keeping.
And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. 1 John 2:3-5
8) What is the Bibles definition of sin?
Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. 1 John 3:4
9) John taught that one must practice righteousness in order to be counted righteous by God.
Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as He is righteous. 1 John 3:7
10) Is commandment-keeping compatible with love?
For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. 1 John 5:3
And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it. 2 John 6
11) Jude, the brother of James, warned that false ministers would equate God's grace with permission to disregard the law.
For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, {lawlesness} and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. Jude 4
12) In the Revelation of Jesus Christ, John wrote that only those who keep the commandments will enter into God's Kingdom.
Blessed [are] they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. Revelation 22:14
