The longest chapter in the Holy Bible is an extended praise of YHWH's WORD and law.
Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them. YHWH, I have hoped for thy salvation, and done thy commandments. My soul hath kept thy testimonies; and I love them exceedingly. Psalm 119:165-167
If only all of mankind viewed YHWH's law in this light! To our shame the Ten Commandments has been rejected as the standard for human behavior- even many who profess to follow Christ treat them as irrelevent because they have been deceived by false teachers who claim YHWH's law was abolished at Yeshua's death. They fail to distinguish between YHWH's eternal law, and the Mosaic law of carnal ordinances and sacrafices. They twist the scriptures to justify their disobedience! (2 Peter 3:16)
God's Word tells us "The law of the YHWH [is] perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the YHWH [is] sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of YHWH[are] right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of YHWH [is] pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of YHWH [is] clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the YHWH[are] true [and] righteous altogether. Psalm 19:7-9
Does it matter if we obey the Ten Commandmants?
It would be wonderful if we could simply ask Yeshua (Jesus) if keeping the Commandments is still necessary, especially to obtain eternal life!
We can- through His Word! This question was put directly to Yeshua by the 'Rich young Ruler' in Matthew Ch 19:
And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? [there is] none good but one, [that is], God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
This is about as clear as an answer can be! Yeshua said he expects anyone who desires the gift of eternal life in his Kingdom to keep the commandments!
Yeshua leaves no doubt which commandments he meant- he goes on to briefly recite half of the Ten Commandments. He then quotes another command from Leviticus 19:18, that summarizes the intent of the Commandments: "... but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself". He was clearly refering to YHWH's law, not to the carnal ordinances or the extrabiblical dictates taught by the religious leaders.
Mainstream false teachers preach that Yeshua abolished the Old Testement law. Here again Yeshua gives us His own direct response:
"Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach [them], the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5:17-19
Again Yeshua speaks clearly and to the point. God's law has not been abolished, and, according to His own words, those who teach otherwise are in error.
Many assume the law is done away with because Yeshua 'fulfilled' it. This is a fundamental misinterpretation of Christ's clear words. The word translated as 'fulfill' in this passage means 'to make full, to fill up'- this is exactly what Yeshua did! He perfectly kept the Ten Commandments and completely filled their meaning. He showed their spiritual intent, explaining that unjustified anger equates with murder, and lust is mental and emotional adultery. He expanded the intent of the law

The Apostle Paul taught obediance to the law, though many selectivly use parts of his epistles to say that he taught against God's laws. Yet, Paul makes one of the most powerful and unambiguous statements in support of keeping God's law. Contrasting the merits of circumsicion with the merits of God's law Paul says: "Circumcision is nothing, and uncircumcision is nothing, but the keeping of the commandments of God." 1 Corinthians 7:19 He is saying that the keeping of the commandments of God is everything!
In the introduction of his letter to the Church in Rome, Paul explained that he and the other apostles had all "...received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name". Romans 1:5 What did Paul personally strive to obey? Describing the battle we all wage against the flesh, Paul said "So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God..." Romans 7:25 The law was written in Paul's heart, just as it is to be in ours.
This [is] the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; Hebrews 10:16
Paul clearly explained his personal view of God's law:"Wherefore the law [is] holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good"Romans 7:12 and "For I delight in the law of God after the inward man" (v.22). He calls it a 'spiritual law'.(v14)
Paul taught, "For not the hearers of the law [are] just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified." Romans 2:13. Can it be any more plain?
Those who opposed Paul were the first to falsely charge him with breaking the law. They introduced an accusation that has been repeated through the centuries.
In defending himself, Paul vigorously denied that he was a lawbreaker of any kind. At on of his trials "...the Jews which came down from Jerusalem stood round about, and laid many and grievous complaints against Paul, which they could not prove. While he answered for himself, "Neither against the law of the Jews, neither against the temple, nor yet against Caesar, have I offended any thing at all." Acts 25:7-8
Another time while disputing he told those judging him that he had continued to use the Old Testement Scriptures as the authority for his beliefs: "Neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me. But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets". Acts 24:13-14
Accusations- then and now- that Paul taught against the law of YHWH are a lie! Even in his preaching to the Gentiles he said: "For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ hath not wrought by me, to make the Gentiles obedient, by word and deed,"Romans 15:18 . Paul kept the commandments of God.
We have seen that the Apostle John clearly defines sin as the'transgression of the law" (1 John 3:4) Like Paul, John describes the saints as those "...that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Yeshua." Revelation 14:12 . He also gives us a sobering warning: "He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him." 1 John 2:4
Peter delivers a similar warning "For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known [it], to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them." 2 Peter 2:20, 21
In the Revelation of Yeshua the Messiah we are reminded of the supreme importance of YHWH's Commandments to out eternal life: "Blessed [are] they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city." Revelation 22:14
The New Covenant
The Bible tells us that Christ came as the Mediator of a new covenant (Hebrews 8). The popular belief that the New Covenant abolishes YHWH's Law reflects a misunderstanding of both covenants and is the doctrine of anti-christ! God tells us that he altered the original covenant and made a "better covenant, which was established upon better promises." v.6 Notice it is established on better promises and not better laws!
There was, however, a weakness or fault in the original covenant. This fault lies with the people, not with the law. "For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they continued not in my covenant, and I regarded them not, saith the Lord. " (v8,9)
People lacking the indwelling of the Holy Spirit are incapable of obedience to the law. Why? "Because the carnal mind [is] enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God." Romans 8:7,8
This is why the Old Covenant and the New Covenant differ. Paul explains that "For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." Romans 8:3,4
The following passages in the New Testement confirn, either expicitly or by example, thet Yeshua and His apostles viewed the Ten Commandments as a necessary part of Christian living.
Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Matthew 4:10

YHWH told Moses: "O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever!" Deuteronomy 5:29
Yeshua said: "If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love." John 15:10
Remember this advice in Psalm 1: Blessed [is] the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight [is] in the law of YHWH; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. v 1-3
Each person must choose whether they will obey the True and living God, YHWH, who gave us the Ten Commandments, or to go another way. We will all stand in the judgment and account fot our obedience or our unfaithfulness!
See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil; In that I command thee this day to love YHWH thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and YHWH thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it. But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them; I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, [and that] ye shall not prolong [your] days upon the land, whither thou passest over Jordan to go to possess it. I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, [that] I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: That thou mayest love YHWH thy God, [and] that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he [is] thy life, and the length of thy days...
