Deuteronomy 5:12-15 (12) Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee. (13) Six days thou shalt labor, and do all thy work: (14) But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest as well as thou. (15) And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the LORD thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the LORD thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.
The Sabbath is clearly stated, in Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5, to have two major purposes. The Sabbath is to remind us that God is Creator; we look back on Him creating. But it is also designed to show us that the Sabbath is the day that He has given to keep us free; it reminds us that we were once slaves.
Remembering God as Creator is good, but because it happened in the dim past, it does not always help us in our immediate concerns. But every Sabbath we are also reminded that God is our redeeming Liberator, and that we keep the Sabbath because we are free—and because we want to remain free. Those who are redeemed who do not keep the Sabbath do not retain their liberty.
Nations establish memorials for specific reasons. Here in the United States we have a Presidents' Day, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Armistice Day, and so on. Why do we have these days? Our nation's leaders want us to be periodically reminded of our heritage. They want us to remember why we have what we have, why we should hold on to these things, and why we should strengthen what we have.
God's Sabbath—His memorial—is so important to His purpose that He has it recur every week! Not once a year, but every week! It is a constant reminder of our spiritual heritage from Him and of our release from sin, and it reorients us in any area in which we may have turned aside.

It is sad when people who obviously love the Lord are deceived into thinking Jesus somehow "fullfilled" God's Law- the Ten Commandments, specifically the Sabbath.
They misinterperet 'fulfill' in Matthew 5:17 "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil."
Jesus clearly taught us to keep the Law. The Greek translation of this passage shows the truth:
"Fulfil" pleroo {play-ro'-o} 1) to make full, to fill up, i.e. to fill to the full a) to cause to abound, to furnish or supply liberally
This is from the root pleres {play'-race} 1) full, i.e. filled up (as opposed to empty) a) of hollow vessels b) of a surface, covered in every part c) of the soul, thoroughly permeated with 2) full, i.e. complete, lacking nothing, perfect
Jesus didn't abolish the Law, He magnified it! Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. Matthew 5:27-28
Jesus said this concerning His law:
"Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5:19
He told the young ruler who asked Him how to obtain eternal life :
...but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. Matthew 19:17
God did not command the seventh day, or any day, as a day of worship- it is a day or rest! It is a time to allow us to remember God's plan and see His pattern. It is a sign of the obedience of the Spirit filled son of God:
Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it [is] a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that [ye] may know that I [am] the LORD that doth sanctify you. Exodus 31:13
And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I [am] the LORD your God. Ezekiel 20:20
So many twist the epistles of Paulout of context (2 Peter 3:16) in an attempt to proclaim a doctrine of lawlessness- the doctine of anti-christ! True believers have these written in their heart- the Holy Spirit helping them to live in Christ and be obedient servants. All will be judged by God's Law! All Ten Commandments!
So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty. James 2:12
Don't fall into the snare of believing the true Sabbath is done away with or somehow only 'Jewish'. This is the mark of Satan!
It is not wrong to worship on Sunday, we should worship every day- what is wrong is to claim Sunday as the Sabbath, to not keep seperate the true Sabbath, and to teach and proclaim the doctrines of men over the Word of God. It is wrong to teach a lie!
...no lie is of the truth. 1 John 2:21
And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither [whatsoever] worketh abomination, or [maketh] a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life. Revelation 21:27
Calling Sunday the Sabbath is from the RCC- it is a tradition of MEN!
Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching [for] doctrines the commandments of men. Mark 7:7
"For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." Jesus Christ

From the Battleground on ruboard.com:
Why do you keep going back to the notion that I ever said obedience to God's Ten Commandments had anything to do with salvation? I have clearly stated that we are obedient BECAUSE WE ARE SAVED, NOT TO BE SAVED. Maybe you should seek this for yourself, in your own Bible, instead of posting these canned writings from others!
You have said that we are to keep the 10 Commandments, that they are 'good'- how then is it possible to to say that the 4th commandment has been done away with?
You post human arguments from theologins, neglecting the clear word of God. Any Biblical backing you have is only possible by 'wresting' (see 2 Peter 3:16) the writings of the Apostle Paul- You will not be able to stand on this twisted theology without twisting Paul's epistles!
Use the writings of anyone BUT Paul to validate your assumption!
Paul did not advocate the disobediance to God's Sabbath or his Holy Days! Paul admonished the Corinthian Church to observe the Passover: "Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened [bread] of sincerity and truth." 1 Cor 5:8
Paul taught in the synagogue every Sabbath: "And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks." Acts 18:4
Jesus was the 'Lord of the Sabbath' "For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day." Matthew 12:8
It was Jesus' custom to observe the sabbath. Remember, He is our EXAMPLE! And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. Luke 4:16
Jesus taught extensivly about the Sabbath- and criticized the Pharasees for adopting the vain traditions of men surrounding it's observance. - If God wanted it done away with don't you think He would have said so? Instead of telling them NOT to keep the sabbath, He told them HOW to keep it!
"And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift [it] out? How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days" Matthew 12:12
"And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:" Mark 2:27
Jesus taught ON the Sabbath "And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing [him] were astonished, saying, From whence hath this [man] these things? and what wisdom [is] this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?" Mark 6:2
Jesus healed ON the Sabbath:
Man with withered hand: And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered. Luke 6:6
Lame man at the temple: And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath. John 5:9
Blind man: And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. John 9:14
In the Olivet Prophesy Jesus said "But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:" Matthew 24:20 If the Sabbath was to be done away with, why would Jesus tell the last days Church to pray this prayer?
Jesus said "And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:" Mark 2:27 He did not say "there is no need to keep the sabbath".
If Jesus intended to change the Law, wouldn't he have told those closest to Him? Why then did they continue to observe the Sabbath after His death? "And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the [mother] of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him." Mark 16:1
This is the TRUTH and cannot be disputed!

Luke 6:6-10 And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered. And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath day; that they might find an accusation against him. But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth. Then said Yeshua unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy [it]? And looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other. An evaluation of what Yeshua teaches will show that He gives very few rules, if any, for keeping the Sabbath (or for that matter, for anything). One of the reasons for this is that the rules were already laid down in the Old Testament. What He came to do was to magnify the spiritual application of the Ten Commandments, that is, teach and expound the spirit of the law, the intention for the law.
There is hardly a law that He paid more attention to than the Sabbath. There are at least seven different occasions in the four Gospels in which the Sabbath is the issue, when Yeshua magnified its use for us. Every one of them has the theme of redemption in it.
What He teaches us are principles for applying the rules that have already been given in the Old Testament. For some of us, that is kind of disconcerting. We would like to have everything explained in great and explicit detail for us, explanations for where we should do something, when we should do it, and rules for every possible situation that might arise.
God allowed the Jews to try that. They eventually came up with 1,521 rules concerning the Sabbath, which they felt would cover every situation that one might possibly get into. What God is showing us through Jesus Christ is that this is unnecessary. Not only unnecessary, but it does not work! If it did God would have done it! A person is not free when he is bound to those kinds of regulations. These are the 'vain traditions' of men!
What Christ did in giving us principles is that He gave us things that will last unalterable to the end of time and allow us to be free. They allow a person not always to do exactly the same thing each time. Every situation has to be judged on its own merit, and 'Christ in us'- our faith- will lead us to make the correct decision. "for whatsoever [is] not of faith is sin."
What does God want to do with our lives? What is He trying to form? He is creating in us an ability—an expertise—to judge. We are going to be kings and priests in His Kingdom! What does a king do? A king judges in civil matters, things that pertain to the community. What does a priest do? A priest also judges, but he judges in things spiritual. God is teaching us how to judge both!
How we use the Sabbath is an integral part of His training program, and so He has purposely left out all kinds of details. But what YHWH did through Yeshua is to magnify things so that we can see the intent. What we are seeing is that the intent for the Sabbath is to free. It is to liberate. It is not to bind people with rules! Mostly is is a sign that we obey His WORD!
If we are going to become judges, trained in the purpose that He wants, He has to allow us this liberty to make the judgments. So it is a risk that must be taken if a person is going to grow in judgment and character, so one will be prepared to be a king and a priest, knowing when to act and when not to act. God offers to us His Holy Spirit to give us counsel and to guide, but we must apply the principles to the circumstances we face in our daily lives.
In no case did Jesus give any indication of doing away with the Sabbath. Always the examples show Him magnifying the Sabbath's intent by doing an act of freeing someone else! Our example!
