Keep the sabbath day to sanctify it, as YHWH thy God hath commanded thee. Six days thou shalt labor, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of YHWH thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, nor thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thine ox, nor thine ass, nor any of thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates; that thy manservant and thy maidservant may rest as well as thou. And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that YHWH thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore YHWH thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day. Deuteronomy 5:12-15
The Sabbath is clearly stated, in Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5, to have two major purposes. The Sabbath is to remind us that God is Creator; we look back on Him creating. But it is also designed to show us that the Sabbath is the day that He has given to keep us free; it reminds us that we were once slaves.
Remembering God as Creator is good, but because it happened in the dim past, it does not always help us in our immediate concerns. But every Sabbath we are also reminded that God is our redeeming Liberator, and that we keep the Sabbath because we are free—and because we want to remain free. Those who are redeemed who do not keep the Sabbath holy do not retain their liberty.
YHWH's Sabbath—His memorial—is so important to His purpose that He has it recur every week! Not once a year, every week! It is a constant reminder of our spiritual heritage from Him and of our release from sin, and it reorients us in any area in which we may have turned aside. It also reminds us His plan of salvation- the 7th Day 1000 year reign of Yeshua the Messiah here, with us, on earth! REST!
It is sad so many are deceived into thinking Jesus somehow "fullfilled" God's Law- the Ten Commandments, specifically the Sabbath. These people follow 'another Jesus'- they teach 'another gospel'!
For such [are] false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore [it is] no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.
They misinterperet 'fulfill' in Matthew 5:17 "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil."
Jesus clearly taught us to keep the Law. The Greek translation of this passage shows the truth:
"Fulfil"
pleroo {play-ro'-o}
1) to make full, to fill up, i.e. to fill to the full
a) to cause to abound, to furnish or supply liberally
This is from the root pleres {play'-race}
1) full, i.e. filled up (as opposed to empty)
a) of hollow vessels
b) of a surface, covered in every part
c) of the soul, thoroughly permeated with
2) full, i.e. complete, lacking nothing, perfect
Jesus didn't abolish the Law, He magnified it!
Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. Matthew 5:27-28
Yeshua said this concerning His law:
"Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 5:19
"For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled." Jesus Christ
He told the young ruler who asked Him how to obtain eternal life :
...but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. Matthew 19:17
The Seventh day sabbath is a special day that God seperated and made holy from creation. It is a day of rest from our own works. It is a time to allow us to remember God's plan and see His pattern. It is a sign of the obedience of the Spirit filled son of God:
Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it [is] a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that [ye] may know that I [am] YHWH that doth sanctify you. Exodus 31:13
And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I [am] YHWH your God. Ezekiel 20:20
So many 'wrest' the epistles of Paul out of context in an attempt to proclaim a doctrine of lawlessness- the doctine of anti-christ (see 2 Peter 3:16)! Paul did not advocate the disobediance to God's Sabbath or his Holy Days! Paul admonished the Corinthian Church to observe the Passover: "Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened [bread] of sincerity and truth." 1 Cor 5:8
Paul taught in the synagogue every Sabbath: "And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks." Acts 18:4
True believers have the law written in their heart- the Holy Spirit helping them to live in Christ and be obedient servants. All will be judged by God's Law! All Ten Commandments!
So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty. James 2:12
Don't fall into the snare of believing the true Sabbath is done away with or somehow only 'Jewish'. This is the mark of Satan Counterfeit!
It is not wrong to worship on Sunday, we should worship YHWH every day- what is wrong is to proclaim Sunday as the Sabbath, to not keep seperate the true Sabbath, and to teach and proclaim the doctrines of men over the Word of God. It is wrong to teach a lie!
...no lie is of the truth. 1 John 2:21
And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither [whatsoever] worketh abomination, or [maketh] a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life. Revelation 21:27
Calling Sunday the Sabbath is from the RCC it is a LIE! - it is a tradition of MEN and NOT found in scripture. Ther is absolutley no Biblical authority for changing the Fourth Commandment of Yahweh!
Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching [for] doctrines the commandments of men. Mark 7:7
True Christians are obedient BECAUSE THET ARE SAVED, NOT TO BE SAVED! "Here is the patience of the saints: here [are] they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus." Revelation 14:12
Jesus was the 'Lord of the Sabbath' "For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day." Matthew 12:8
It was Jesus' custom to observe the sabbath. Remember, He is our EXAMPLE!
And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. Luke 4:16
Jesus taught extensivly about the Sabbath- and criticized the Pharasees for adopting the vain traditions of men surrounding it's observance. - If He wanted it done away with don't you think He would have said so? Instead of telling them NOT to keep the sabbath, He told them HOW to keep it!
"And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift [it] out? How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days" Matthew 12:12
Jesus taught ON the Sabbath
"And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing [him] were astonished, saying, From whence hath this [man] these things? and what wisdom [is] this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?" Mark 6:2
Jesus healed ON the Sabbath:
Man with withered hand:
And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught: and there was a man whose right hand was withered. Luke 6:6
Lame man at the temple:
And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath. John 5:9
Blind man:
And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes. John 9:14
In the Olivet Prophesy Jesus said "But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:" Matthew 24:20
If the Sabbath was to be done away with, why would Jesus tell the last days Church to pray this prayer?
Jesus said "And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:" Mark 2:27 He did not say "there is no need to keep the sabbath".
If Jesus intended to change the Law, wouldn't he have told those closest to Him? Why then did they continue to observe the Sabbath after His death?
